The Medieval Centre

An informal Medieval Centre was established at Copenhagen in the early 1970s as the result of long-standing cooperation among medievalists in the Faculty of Humanities. In 1982 it was given official status, associated with the Institute for Greek and Latin Medieval Philology, now the Institute for Greek and Latin.

The purpose of the Centre is to encourage and coordinate interdisciplinary teaching and research in any aspect of medieval studies, within the University of Copenhagen, and between the University and other institutions.

Program (Spring 2006)

Research meetings are held frequently. At these meetings, current projects are informally presented, and plans for future joint research and teaching are drafted. Regular participants include medieval scholars from the Institutes for English, History, Religion, Music, and Art History at the University, as well as from the National Museum and the State Archives. Research students and visiting scholars are also invited.

See the Program for Lunch meetings here!

Joint teaching projects on topics such as monasticism, the Bible in the Middle Ages, the medieval epic, drama, art, and music have involved students and teachers from a broad range of disciplines. Frequently, such courses develop into inter-departmental research projects and publications.

International students in medieval subjects are welcome in Copenhagen. For information, please contact Christian Troelsgård.

The Centre has organized a number of international congresses since 1983.
