Degrees in classics (MA 1972) and Modern Greek (BA 1968). Dr. phil., Univ. of Copenhagen, 1981.

Fields of research: Ancient and medieval philosophy, esp. medieval logic. Greek (ancient and modern) and Latin phonology and morphology. Numerous publications, including many editions of medieval philosophical texts (most of them Latin, but also some Greek).

Teaches classics and medieval philology and philosophy.

Director of the Institute for Greek and Latin 1992-99. Previously (1982-86 and 1989-91) director of the Institute of Greek and Latin Medieval Philology, which in 1992 was fused with the Institute of Classics to form the present institute.

Editor-in-chief of Corpus Philosophorum Danicorum Medii Aevi since 1982. Editor of Cahiers de l'Institut du moyen-âge grec et latin since 1982. Editorial adviser for Medieval Philosophy and Theology and Didascalia. Member of Société Internationale pour l'étude de la Philosophie Médiévale (since 1992 member of the board, chairman of the trivium commission since 1982); of Platonselskabet, Det danske Sprog- og Litteraturselskab, Society for Medieval & Renaissance Philosophy, Dansk Selskab for Oldtids- og Middelalderforskning (president 1990-93), The Buridan Society (secretary since 1986). Fellow of Det Kongelige Danske Videnskabernes Selskab (= The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters) since 1989; member of the Academy's commission on research policies since 1989-99.
